KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Before the G20 summit concluded in India, one jazz vocalist from Kansas City had the chance to step on the international stage. Eboni Fondren was selected to represent the United States in the choir that performed there."It was surreal,” Fondren said. That's the reaction Fondren had when she found out the news that she'd have a chance to grace the international stage all while doing what she loves. "The experience of it all, and the friendships that were made—yeah, it was like—the whole experience just super surreal," Fondren said. But this accomplishment didn't happen overnight. In fact, it took a lot of hard work. Not only her life's dedication to being the best possible jazz vocalist she can be. But putting in the work to be one of less than 30 people selected to be in the choir that had this opportunity had such an important summit. Including 10 days of rehearsals, all-in preparation for when the choir took the stage in front of the...Broncos stock report: With Jerry Jeudy out, does anybody on Denver’s offense scare opposing defensive coordinators?

Stock upILB Alex SingletonDenver’s tackling machine wasted no time making his presence felt, stopping Josh Jacobs three times on the opening drive alone for gains of one, two and zero. He finished with eight tackles, a pressure on Jimmy Garoppolo and the pass deflection that led to Kareem Jackson’s interception. The Broncos signed him to a three-year deal in the offseason for a reason.QB Russell WilsonThe quarterback played well overall and, notably, executed consistently within the structure of plays. He got the ball out quickly for the most part, wasn’t too quick to bail from the pocket and delivered the ball where it was supposed to go. When he broke the pocket, he did so with a plan. There’s still plenty to improve upon — a low throw to Courtland Sutton on Denver’s fourth-quarter three-and-out was a bad time for a bad ball — but a promising first step in 2023 for Wilson.RB Javonte WilliamsThe numbers aren’t going to blow anybody away — 17 touches for 57 yards — but William...CSU Board to vote on proposed 6% annual tuition hikes Wednesday

Students across the California State University system’s 23 campuses will likely have annual tuition increases beginning in the fall 2024 semester, pending approval from the Board of Trustees, a vote that’s set for Wednesday, Sept. 13.The proposed tuition increases, which includes an annual 6% bump in the cost of education over the next five years, were originally approved by the board’s Committee on Finance in July — despite concerns from students and faculty alike that the additional costs would limit access to what has historically been the state’s most affordable higher education system.CSU officials, though, say the tuition increases — the first since the 2011-12 academic year — are necessary to cover $1.5 billion in unfunded operational costs in the system’s budget. The massive funding gap was first identified by a CSU workgroup report released in May, which found that the CSU only has enough money to pay for about 85% of the actual costs of education, institutional and academi...Ian Wilmut dies at 79; British scientist led team that cloned Dolly the sheep

Associated PressLONDON — Ian Wilmut, the cloning pioneer whose work was critical to the creation of Dolly the Sheep in 1996, has died at age 79.The University of Edinburgh in Scotland said Wilmut died Sunday after a long illness with Parkinson’s disease.Wilmut set off a global discussion about the ethics of cloning when he announced that his team at the university’s Roslin Institute for animal biosciences had cloned a lamb using the nucleus of a cell from an adult sheep.Initially referred to as “6LL3” in the academic paper describing the work, the lamb was later named Dolly, after the singer Dolly Parton. The lamb’s cloning was the first time scientists were able to coax a mature adult cell into behaving like a cell from a newly fertilized embryo in order to create a genetically identical animal. While Dolly’s creation was heralded as a revolution by some scientists, it unnerved many, with critics calling such experiments unethical.Dolly, the first cloned sheep, is ...Suspect in East Bay freeway shooting arrested in Oakley

Keep in mind that the Pittsburgh Steelers are supposed to be pretty good. And were at home.Yet after Christian McCaffrey broke loose on a 65-yard run on the first drive of the second half, the game was over. The 49ers won 30-7 Sunday, and it didn’t seem that close.“We got kicked in the teeth in a lot of areas,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said.I can think of only one season-opening win that compares — a 44-14 win over the Los Angeles Raiders at Candlestick Park to open the 1994 season.Which also happens to be the last season that ended with the 49ers hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. The Raiders, in what turned out to be their last season in Los Angeles before returning to Oakland, were regarded as AFC contenders because of their speed and athleticism. They may as well have been running in quicksand against the 49ers.In that game, the 49ers took control in the second half as opposed to taking apart the Steelers in the first half. The 49ers led 23-14, and won going a...Latest news
